Issuance of digital driving licences postponed

The implementation of the digital driving licenses that was expected to kick off from October 1 did not take place as expected. According to a press statement from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), the implementation of the second phase of the issuance of the digital licenses has been postponed.

“Issuance to all vehicles that will undergo motor vehicle inspection on their due dates has been postponed to a later date,” the NTSA said in a statement.

The first phase of the issuance for vehicles with zero mileage had kicked off on July 1.

The second phase, which was to kick off yesterday,  over 100,000 new licenses distributed to motorists who include first time drivers.

The licenses offer the capability for drivers to punished on the spot for minor traffic offences.

The list of minor violations included speeding, motorcycle riding without protective gear, failure to fasten seat belts, pedestrians blocking the free passage of cars, driving on footpaths and travelling with part of body outside a moving vehicle.
