Why Pharmacy is the most marketable course, entry requirements

The Kenya Medical and Training College (KMTC) has revealed that pharmacy is now the most in-demand course in Kenya and internationally, while encouraging prospective candidates to pursue it.

In a statement on Thursday, April 24, KMTC highlighted the diverse opportunities awaiting KMTC graduates, including in top pharmaceutical companies, hospitals, and even non-governmental organizations.

“Pharmacy is one of the most marketable and rewarding careers today, offering diverse local and international opportunities. Graduates work in top pharmaceutical companies, hospitals, research institutions, regulatory bodies, and even NGOs,” KMTC said.

Some of the roles of Pharmacy Technicians include dispensing medication, offering patient guidance, and handling administrative tasks in pharmaceutical practice.

“Pharmacists also contribute to public health programs, clinical trials, health policy, insurance, and academic research, making it a dynamic and future-proof profession,” the institution added.

Application Window Open for March 2025 Intake

With the March 2025 intake still open, KMTC is calling on students to apply via the KUCCPS student portal.

Interested applicants can access program listings and detailed application procedures by visiting KUCCPS KMTC Portal.

KMTC Diploma in Pharmacy Entry Requirements

The minimum requirement to pursue a Diploma in Pharmacy, also known as a Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology, includes a KCSE mean grade of C, with a C in English or Kiswahili, Chemistry or Physical Science, and Biology or Biological Sciences.

Candidates should also have a C plain in any one of the following: Physics, Physical Sciences, or Mathematics.

The program takes 3 years and provides foundational knowledge and practical skills in pharmacy.

The Diploma in Pharmacy is offered at several KMTC campuses across the country, including Kisumu, Manza (Machakos), Mombasa, Nairobi, Nakuru, and Nyeri.
