Speaking at the National Police Service Leadership Academy in Ngong, Kajiado County, Rigathi Gachagua made it known that he has plans to return to school, in his term as DP, and make further strides in his education.
He asked President William Ruto to allow him to study once the workload lessens. Gachagua revealed that he usually feels challenged when he attends meetings with the President who has 3 university honors while he has just one degree.
“Your Excellency ata masomo yangu ni kidogo, utanipa ruhusa kazi ikipungua niongeze kidogo. (Your excellency, I am a man with little education, please allow me to further my studies once the workload in the office lessens)” he said.
Other than the President, Gachagua hilariously confessed that he sometimes encounters challenges with some of his colleagues who are more educated than him, when attending important meetings.
“Kwa ile kazi nimepewa na rais, masomo yangu iko chini kidogo. Unajua mimi niko an degree moja, my boss has three, si unaona hiyo ni kibarua kali. Tena one of my senior colleague ni professor, so pale kwa mikutano saa zingine huwa ninachanganyikiwa,” he said.

Translated: From the work I have been given by my boss, my education is a little bit low. I have one degree, yet my boss has three degrees and another senior colleague is a Professor. Sometimes in meetings, I get overwhelmed.
Gachuagua urged the National Police Service officers to also consider furthering their studies whenever they get a chance.
He also reasserted that the leadership Academy couldn’t have come at a better time, as it would impart useful leadership skills to police commanders to boost service delivery in the police service.
