Kenyans seeking to access services on e-Citizen will now have to pay an ‘access fee’. This is after the National Treasury announced a set of new charges for the platform.
The new access fees will range from Sh. 5 to Sh. 50, and are expected to total billions when tabulated against the number of Kenyans who use the platform to access government services.
Under the previous administration, accessing the e-Citizen platform was free and Kenyans seeking services were only required to pay for the actual service and not for the platform.
In the new charges, the government will charge you one dollar per any transaction done using dollars.
Services that require payment of Sh. 1,000 and above will require Kenyans to pay an access fee of Sh. 50 per transaction. The lowest charges of Sh. 5 will be on services requiring payment of Sh. 199 and below.
Kenyans will pay Sh. 25 access fee for services requiring the payment of between Sh. 700 and Sh. 999 while services of between Sh. 500 and Sh. 699 will have Kenyans paying Sh. 20 access fee.
Payments of between Sh. 200 and Sh. 499 will vary between Sh. 10 and Sh. 15 per transaction.
