In a bid to increase awareness and economic empowerment for persons living with disability, Kenya Reinsurance Corporation now in its third leg of the NIKO FITI – Ability beyond Disability Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, has transformed the lives of over 1000 persons with disability from Nairobi, Mombasa and Eldoret counties. The Corporation which has set aside 32 Million shillings for its CSR project Niko Fiti na Kenya Re in its third leg of distribution this year hit Eldoret county this morning with beneficiaries from Uasin Gichu, Trans Nzoia, West Pokot and Kapenguria counties benefiting. The event held at 64 stadium in Eldoret County was presided over by Kenya Re’s Managing Director, Mr. Jadiah Mwarania.
Prior to the distribution, the beneficiaries were taken through training at an Eldoret hotel to equip them with various skills such as basic book keeping, sound financial management including leadership and governance. This will go a long way in boosting competitiveness in our fast growing economy. This was made possible with continued support and partnership from the Association for the Physically Disabled of Kenya (APDK).
The Campaign which is aimed at complete eradication of stigma associated with disability snaked through Eldoret town in a caravan where its 2016 Niko Fiti na Kenya Re ambassador, Phelix Odiwuor a.k.a Jalango was present to sensitize the public. The informative roadshow kicked off from Eldoret town, and stopped over at West Indies, Huruma, Maili nane, Langas and Kisumu ndogo. The beneficiaries received mobility and assistive devices that will financially empower them to better their lives.
Giving remarks at the event, Kenya Re’s Managing Director, Mr. Jadiah Mwarania said the CSR Initiative is aimed at promoting equality and support for persons living with disability.
“The assistive devices and the training courses offered to the beneficiaries will go a long way in eradicating poverty and provide avenues for employment that will consequently enhance economic growth within the County.” Said Mr. Mwarania.
This comes two weeks after the Mombasa distribution where over 300 beneficiaries received various assistive devices and mobile vending units. This coming month the campaign intends to hit Kisumu region where the distribution will cover Siaya, Kisii, Nyamira, Migori, Vihiga and Bondo counties
