Months after losing his job at the Communications Authority of Kenya in controversial circumstances, Ezra Chiloba has now landed yet another plum government job.

Chiloba, who is the former  Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission chief executive officer, has landed a job as the Consul General for Kenya in Los Angeles, United States.

He will take over the job that was up until now being held by Thomas Kwaka whose real name is Big Ted.

Big Ted had been appointed to this position in April 2022 by former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Chiloba was in September 2023 suspended as the Director General of the Communications Authority to pave way for a probe into his alleged abuse of office and misuse of funds in the communication sector regulator’s Sh. 662.4 million mortgage scheme.

He later tendered his resignation in October 2023. The Communications Authority chairperson Mary Wambui had accused  Chiloba of not only approving his own mortgage loan but also paying some Sh. 25 million to a company where he is the sole director which pointed to a conflict of interest.

In addition, Chiloba was also accused of clearing staff who left the CA despite having unpaid loans totaling Sh. 28.9 million and understating loan balances for former employees, charges that were claimed to have been based on the findings of an audit report on the management of the staff mortgage scheme.
