Sh. 550mn looted at FKF, millions transferred to Mwendwa’s accounts

A special probe into the accounts of FKF have revealed the extent to which funds have been looted. The special probe report shows that up to Sh. 550 million that was allocated to FKF has been looted.

The report reveals fictitious withdrawals of Sh. 29.5 million which was done within a month. In addition, the report shows how up to Sh. 8.5 million was withdrawn from the FKF accounts and transferred to FKF boss Nick Mwendwa’s private bank accounts between March and May this year.

According to the probe report, there were no documents to support the expenditure of up to Sh. 513 million by the organization between December 18, 2017 and October 13, 2021.. The money was allocated to the FKF as as grants from the national government.

The probe also established that FKF under Mwendwa had 14 different bank accounts, and cited duplication, since some of the account names in different banks were serving similar purposes. Other than Mwendwa, those listed as authorized signatories for the 14 federation bank accounts are Christine Akumu Ojude, Barry Omondi Otieno, Chris Amino and Doris Petra.

In addition, questionable expenditure listed by the probe include Sh. 218.8 million for Harambee Stars during the 2019 Africa Cup of nations tournament, Sh.40 million to fund CECAFA tournament in November and December 2017, Sh. 27.9 million for sponsorship of Harambee Starlets participation in CECAFA championships, Sh.25.7 million for facilitation of Harambee Stars AFCON qualifier match against Ghana, Sh. 22.8 million for sponsorship of Harambee Stars matches against Swaziland and Equitorial Guinea, Sh.20 million grant to host the CECAFA tournament in November and December 2017, Sh. 16.9 million for the national women’s team home and away matches against Equitorial Guinea, and Sh. 15.9 million sponsorship of the under 20 men national team’s home and away matches against Rwanda, and Sh. 13.4 million funding of Harambee Stars qualifier match against Uganda in 2018.

Details of the report come barely hours after Mwenda was arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations. Mwendwa was arrested from Nyayo stadium where Harambee Stars was training and taken to DCI headquarters for grilling.
