This is despite working for various institutions and organizations in Kenya and abroad.

“If I belonged to a different community, would I be a lecturer earning below Sh. 100,000 as a salary?” the academically decorated professor quipped.

In an interview, Fred Ogola disclosed that he has all the documents defining the conventional way of success; 24 academic certificates.

“I have one Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD), two Master’s Degrees, 5 Undergraduate Degrees and 16 other certifications,” he revealed.

“And it is not only about the certificates, I have earned them from some of the best institutions in the world,” he added.

Outside the world of academia, his life has been very controversial after he married his late wife’s cousin. He had been previously arrested concerning his wife’s murder, who was found dead in their Lavington home.

He spent 21 days in police custody in 2018.

However, his wife’s post-mortem freed him from the malice accusation after it was established she died from blood clots and fluids in her lungs.

Ogola is the 6th child in a family of 11 kids. His family stayed in Nairobi and Siaya. From humble beginnings, Ogola recalls that his critics, who laughed at his family’s poverty, pushed him to work hard and break the cycle.

He scored well in KCPE, attracting attention from a Dutch Priest who gave him a scholarship at St. Mary’s School in Yala.

In Kenya’s population of 53 million, there are less than 10,000 PhD holders. The KNBS estimates that only 3.5% of the population holds at least an academic degree.

This shows that Fred Ogola is among the most educated Kenyans, contrary to his monthly salary of Sh. 100,000
