Kerosene rises as diesel falls to Sh. 78, petrol to Sh. 83

Fuel Prices May 2020: Fuel prices have fallen down with a huge margin for the second month in a row. According to the latest price regulation list by the Energy Regulatory Commission, the price of diesel has fallen with the biggest margin of 19.9 per cent.

This means that the pump price of diesel per litre will now be Sh. 78.68 in Nairobi from the current Sh. 97.56. The price of petrol has fallen by Sh. 10 from Sh. 92.87 per litre to Sh. 83.35 per litre. However, the price of kerosene has risen to Sh. 77.29.

Kenyans won’t get the big fuel price cuts in rest of the world, says PS

A falling global crude oil prices have raised hopes that Kenyans may soon start to enjoy low prices at the pump. But Kenyans may never get to enjoy the heavy price falls that the rest of the world has been enjoying.

According to Permanent Secretary for Petroleum and Energy Andrew Kamau, the fall in prices have nothing to do with the way oil is imported and priced in Kenya.

“The WTI is a US pricing mechanism and is based on oil speculations. It has nothing specific to do with how we import and price for oil here. If you check the Platts, you get the real price from dealers who handle the physical oil,” PS Kamau. Fuel Prices May 2020.
