Rest, take a break from your jobs – Gachagua’s Xmas message to petty thieves

Rest, take a break from your jobs - Gachagua's Xmas message to petty thieves

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has sent a message to petty thieves and muggers, this Christmas festive season.

Speaking on Monday, December 19th while presiding over the launch of internet hotspots for traders and also the launch of a semiconductor manufacturing system at Dedan Kimathi University, in Nyeri town, he told the thieves to let people enjoy themselves without disrupting their peace.

The DP remarked that the petty thieves running crime in cities blame him and President Ruto, saying that they told them that ‘Kazi ni Kazi’. The administration leaders argue that it is not what the two leaders meant.

“Let everybody enjoy Christmas, even the petty thieves and pickpocketers, let them go rest. You know everything must have a break. They can take a holiday from what they do,” he said.

Gachagua urged the law enforcers to take the security mantle and ensure that the safety of all law-abiding citizens is in their best interests.

“I want to urge our officers, there is no Christmas for you, unfortunately. That’s your job, you looked for it as we enjoy,” said Gachagua.

“You work as that is your job description,” the DP maintained.

Gachagua also had words for those who would be caught in trouble during the Christmas festivities.

“Those who cause trouble, arrest them and lock them up till after Christmas so that they can allow these people to enjoy in peace.”

He further cautioned Kenyans against overindulging in alcohol, saying they should moderate their drinking despite it being a festive season. One, two, or three bottles should be enough to celebrate.

“Let us not drink a lot and if you must two, three bottles is enough then go home. This behavior of drinking from evening to the next day is not healthy,” he asserted while launching public wifi at Nyeri market.

With the world having become a small online village, Gacjhagua said that the WIFI would help power eCommerce.

“The internet hotspot is a game-changer aimed at helping traders grow their businesses through e-commerce,” said the DP.

The Nyeri internet hotpot project is a part of a larger scheme to have hotspots countrywide, geared towards President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza digital transformation.

“The Kenya Kwanza administration is prioritizing the internet to citizens as promised. The free internet hotspot will boost trade, and I call on traders and entrepreneurs to take advantage of the project as well as the Hustler Fund to boost your businesses,” Gachagua added.
