I am close to my death – George Mwangi’s final words to sister

I am close to my death - George Mwangi's final words to sister

Kiambu politician Gladys Chania has been singled out by detectives from the Directorate of  Criminal Investigations (DCI) as the prime suspect in the murder of her husband George Mwangi.

Following Mwangi’s death, his elder sisters have come out to talk about the kind of marriage he had with Gladys Chania.

According to the sisters, Mwangi and Chania had a turbulent marriage that was dominated by fights. The sisters have told this to local media, even as detectives say a love triangle might have been at the centre of the gruesome murder.

One of the sisters told the Sunday Nation newspaper that the last conversation she had with Mwangi was on Friday last week.

During this conversation, Mwangi informed her that he was having a deep issue with his wife, Gladys.

“He sounded disturbed and we talked for less than two minutes and he hung up. What I remember him telling me is that ‘I am just depressed and I feel like I am close to my death,’” the sister said.

Detectives say that Mwangi was hit with a blunt object. They also say that the killer may have doused his body with acid because it had been disfigured.

The 58-year-old engineer’s body was dumped at Kieni Forest near Kamunyaka village, along the Thika-Magumu highway. Mwangi had gone missing on Sunday, October 9.

Police say Chania identified Mwangi at the morgue days after she reported him as missing. She reported the case at Mwea and Gachege police posts in Gatundu North on Monday and Tuesday, respectively.
