Natembeya gets Uhuru office job a day after resigning to join politics

George Natembeya has been redeployed to the Office of the President a day after he resigned to contest for the Trans Nzoia Gubernatorial seat. It was however not immediately clear what role he will be playing at President Uhuru’s office. In the changes, Makueni County Commissioner Mohamed Maalim was appointed as the new Rift Valley Regional Commissioner.

At the time of his resignation, Natembeya was the Rift Valley Regional Commissioner. He had served for more than 25 years in public service.

“From today I will no longer be an RC of Rift valley, my counterpart who will replace me in the course of this week or next week. From here I will go back to Nairobi to prepare myself and take a short leave before proceeding to Trans-Nzoia to heed to the calls of Wananchi to serve them as governor,” he said in his resignation statement. “All these experiences that I have gained in the National government, I will take it to the county government to help the residents of Trans-Nzoia.”

He added that he enjoys the support of President Uhuru Kenyatta, Interior CS Fred Matiangi and his PS Karanja Kibicho.
