On Monday 29th July, the Kenyan government, through the Higher Education Loans Board, announced that all government employees are eligible for education loans.
As announced on X (formerly Twitter), the Jielimishe loan allows all government employees with permanent and pensionable terms to apply for education advancement.
HELB’s statement on social media also mentioned that selected private companies will be able to apply for the Jielimishe loan.
“Do you have a government job? You can get low-interest loans of up to Sh. 600,000 with an attractive repayment rate of just 10% annual interest,” read HELB’s poster.
Those eligible to apply for the Jielimishe loan include civil servants working in various ministries, as well as county and national government officers.
Members of the Kenyan disciplined forces, including the National Police Service and the Kenya Defence Forces, are also encouraged to apply for the education loan.
Additionally, all staff working for public commissions can access the facility. This includes members of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), Judicial Service Commission (JSC), Public Service Commission (PSC), Commission on Administrative Justice (CAJ), Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC), and Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA).
