HELB loan defaulters to be arrested

Helb loan defaulters: Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed has ordered that Kenyans who took High Education Loans Board (HELB) loans and are not servicing them be arrested.

Ms. Amina made the order on Wednesday. She said that 74,000 defaulters owe HELB over Sh. 7.2 billion, which the loans body is seeking to recover.

According to a reports, Ms. Amina promised that the crackdown on the loan defaulters would kick off anytime. She further said that the ministry of education is seeking help from employers in tracking the 74,000 defaulters.

“We are also going to partner with our law enforcement agencies to track down those holding jobs and yet are reluctant to stand up to be counted as responsible and patriotic citizens who honour their debts,” she said.
