At least sixteen pupils have died after they were burnt alive during a fire incident that occurred at the Hillside Endarasha Academy in Kieni, Nyeri County.
The fire incident was confirmed by the National Police Service’s Spokesman Resila Onyango to local media. “We have 16 pupils dead and 14 injured. We are investigating the cause and take necessary action,” she told the media.
Reports say that one dormitory at the Hillside Endarasha Academy caught fire and about fifteen pupils were burnt beyond recognition. One pupil succumbed as he was being rushed to hospital.

There are fears that more pupils could be covered as the scene is processed. It was not immediately clear what caused the fire.
Reports indicated that high ranking officers adrawn from the Kenya Police, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, and the National Disaster Management Unit were heading to the school on Friday morning.
