Home Afrika gets contractor to build Sh. 3 billion sports complex

Home Afrika has picked Egyptian company Wadi Degla to build and manage a Sh3 billion sports complex at its 775-acre Migaa gated golf community in Kiambu.

Home Afrika’s managing director Dan Awendo says the Egyptian company’s local subsidiary, Wadi Degla Kenya, has been contracted based on their expertise in building sports complexes.

“At the moment there are no Kenyan companies that specialise in developing clubs and they have immense experience in that industry,” said Mr Awendo. This is the second sporting complex that the Egyptian company is building in Kenya after the Premier Sporting and Social Club located at Paradise Lost, off Kiambu road.

The Sh2.5 billion Paradise Lost sporting facility complete with eateries is expected to be opened to the public in June.

Wadi Degla are currently managing five clubs in Egypt that have football, swimming and tennis academies.

“The club facilities, stadium and sports academies will be completed in the next eight months while the remaining front nine holes of the golf course will be completed in a year,” he added. Home Afrika launched Mitini Scapes last month, the first housing development within Migaa consisting of 82 units of cottages and apartments.

Mitini Scapes has been constructed over the past four years at a cost of Sh700 million. Home Afrika has announced plans to raise up to Sh15 billion over the next 18 months to finance its ongoing and new projects.

Speaking during the ground breaking ceremony, Engineer Adel Samy, the President of Wadi Degla holdings, said Migaa estate residents will have access to all the Wadi Degla facilities to be constructed.

“This development here at Migaa will complement the healthy lifestyles for over 5,000 families that are initially set to live around this development once it is complete,” he said.

The firm also plans to put up a world class FIFA approved soccer field at Migaa in the latter phases of the project. The stadium will enable the smooth operation of the Arsenal soccer academy, while also providing access to world-class facilities for local footballers.

“Our sports facilities are built to enhance the family experience, hence the creation of an all-encompassing sports and lifestyle element, with professional management and professional staff,” he added.
