Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu was born on January 1st, 1956, in Nyaribari Masaba, Kisii County. He is currently 66 years old making him one of the oldest members of Ruto’s cabinet. He is described as a man of few words and an abundance of ideas.
Machogu studied his O levels at Nduru High School before proceeding to join Agoro Sare High School in Oyugis, Homa Bay for his A levels. He then joined the University of Nairobi studying for a Bachelor of Arts degree. He successfully graduated in 1979.
Ezekiel Machogu has worked in the government for over 5 decades. His career began in 1976 as a District Officer, working under Daniel Moi’s administration.
He worked there for 13 years until 1989. He moved to District Commissioner in 1989 and maintained that position until 2008.

Thereafter, Machogu proceeded to work at the Public Service Commission as the Senior Deputy Secretary between 2008 and 2016.
In 2017, Machogu joined active politics and contested for the Nyaribari Masaba National Assembly seat with the National Agenda Party of Kenya (NAPK) ticket. He later repositioned his political stand with excessive allegiance to President Uhuru Kenyatta.
In the 2022 general elections, Machogu vied for the Kisii gubernatorial seat. He lost his bid to current governor Simba Arati of ODM who garnered 270,928 votes, with Machogu of UDA coming second with 82,104 votes.
