Wahome Maina, popularly known as Wahome Wa DGL, lives by the saying, “When you know where you’re going, you know where you don’t want to end up.”
Despite being involved in a fatal accident, his dream of running a transport services company was not dimmed, and he was determined to actualize it immediately after he left the hospital.
The businessman took the plunge into the world of business in 2019 after years of working as a driver in a flower company.
”I started my company in 2019 when I was still employed as a driver in a flower company where I used to deliver flowers for export at JKIA Airport. It’s at this point I started getting small goods and relocations from Nairobi to Gilgil, Olkalou, and Nyahururu, and I could make a good killing,’’ he says.
Things took a different turn in 2020 when he was involved in a fatal road accident that rendered him immobile for 2 years, forcing him to halt his business.
However, his entrepreneurial spirit couldn’t let go of his dream, and he was so daring to build his business while still nursing injuries.
”As I was being treated from one hospital to the other, I started making plans on how I’d start immediately I start walking again,’’ he recalls.

True to his words, Wahome launched his company, Denisse Group Limited (DGL), immediately after leaving the hospital.
The Nakuru-based company, which offers parcels, Cargo, Relocations, and Storage Services, has not only broken even but has become a source of employment for several people who depend on it directly and indirectly.
The bold businessman explains that he started by devising a marketing strategy and opening a Facebook page to market his services.
After he started getting customers, he acquired a tuktuk which facilitated the delivery of goods for his customers.
”I used to go to as far as Narok, Limuru, Mararal and Kabarnet with the tuktuk with a dream that one day I’ll make it and my company will own a fleet of vehicles to keep growing and deliver smiles to my clients,’’ Wahome adds.
Within a year, his business had built a strong customer flow, and he started relocating clients with the tuk-tuk and others with hired trucks and pickups.
It was not long before he opted for an asset finance and acquired his first vehicle marking a new milestone for his company.
”I employed a guy to ride the tuk-tuk since jobs for vehicles started flowing, and I had to be there to make sure my clients are happy,’’ he says.
Today, Denisse Group Limited (DGL) has a fleet of 1 cargo van, a pickup, and a small truck, which are used for normal cargo transport.
”I’m a living testimony of, “When you know where you’re going, you know where you don’t want to end up.” And also I’m a true believer of, “Always Trust the process,” he says.
