The mother of Ann Adhiambo, the main suspect in the murder of the Nairobi Hospital acting Finance Director Eric Maigo, has said that her daughter was severally caught in thievery activities.
Speaking on NTV, Adhiambo’s mother revealed that her daughter at some point stole a 20-liter jerrican of cooking oil from a shop. She later moved to Toi market, where she stole a bag full of clothes, a conduct that had now become unbearable for the mother.
”Kuna siku alikuja na bag kubwa ya manguo nikamwambia hapa ni kama sasa umeiba.Nikamwambia twende na wewe mpaka Toi penye umetoa hizi nguo nijue umetoa wapi. Ikakuja sasa ikaanza kuleta maneno nikaona ananisumbua.’’ She said.
She added that the daughter had become very stubborn, and she decided to hand over her to her sister, who took custody of her and enrolled her in a school in Ruai.
Some few days at the school, she received a call informing her that her daughter had stolen Sh19,000 from the school’s staffroom.

The mother also revealed that the suspect had abandoned school while at Standard four despite getting a sponsorship from a philanthropist who enrolled her in Olympic Primary School.
While she would prepare her daughter to attend classes every day, it later emerged that Adhiambo hardly attended school.
”Alisoma kufika class four akaanza kunishinda. Nikalialia pia madada zangu wakaona. Nilikua namuosha tu vizuri namvalisha nguo na anaenda shule vizuri. Kumbe akifika pale anatoanga uniform anaeka ndani ya bag na anenda Toi kurandaranda.” she added.
After spending her day at Toi Market, she would return home in the evening, claiming that she was at school.
While it was earlier reported that the suspect is a minor believed to be between 15 to 17 years old, recent reports indicate that she was born in 2003 but had difficulties procuring her documents.
She was arrested on Tuesday night in Kibera slums, Nairobi, and has been detained for 21 days pending investigations.
