The 2024 KCSE exams officially began on October 22 and ended in November. The exam took place in 10,755 centers, with a record-high 965,501 candidates, an increase from 903,138 in 2023.

The 2024 KCSE exam papers were different from those of previous years, as the Education Ministry rolled out changes to curb exam malpractices.

Candidates had their papers customized with their names, index numbers, and other personal details pre-printed unlike previously when candidates were required to write down their names, index numbers, and other personal details in spaces provided in the exam papers.

Additionally, at the end of each paper, the section containing the candidates’ details was removed and packed separately to prevent examiners from identifying the candidates while marking.

The marking of exams concluded on December 13, 2024, after an extensive effort by examiners across 35 designated marking centres.

The release of KCSE exams comes a day after the Kenya National Examination Council released the 2024 Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) reports.

KPSEA is the new primary exit examination under CBC and is administered in Grade 6. Last year, about 1.3 million candidates sat for the examinations between October 28 and October 30.
