A Kenyan vlogger living in the UK has revealed how he makes a living with two jobs. On his Youtube Vlog, Huku Yukei, he said that he works both during the day and at night.
However, the young guy admitted that his night shift job as a supermarket attendant pays him better than his day job. He added that getting a job in the UK is as easy as ordering an Uber.
He has to book on an agency app, though the job is contractual. Some of them pay Sh. 1,000 per hour while others commit to more. One of the apps he uses to get a job is Indeed Flex.
The app texts him if he’s available for a job, and he is obliged to respond, either to take the job or reject it.
He noted that as contracted people work the agency job, the dress code to be maintained is always black. This helps to separate the customers, official staff and the contracted people on the job.
“Hizi jobs za agency wanataka unavaa black kila kitu,” he said.
The man gave netizens a glimpse of his workplace at the supermarket. He stated that he makes Sh. 20,000 per night as a supermarket attendant. His shift lasts for 10 hours, working between 9:00 pm and 7:00 am.
In the video, he recorded himself opening oversized packages, stacking and arranging new products on the supermarket shelves. Huku Yukei states that even Sh. 20,000 is a lot of money in the UK just for a night.
He does not have to work through the night non-stop continually; there is a break, ‘half-time’, where he rests and eats something to gain energy. Despite working for an agency, he gets free food like the other supermarket staff.
The man explained that he works the supermarket job between 6 and 10 times a month, which earns him good money. He adds that using the money in the UK isn’t as beneficial as using it in Kenya.
“Hiyo pesa kama unaitumia hapa hivi, haikusaidii sana lakini kama unaituma Kenya, inasaidia sana. Ukiwa huku make sure unatuma pesa Kenya,” he said.
“So ukikam hapa hivi, make sure unatuma pesa Kenya. Nunua shamba ama ufanye kakitu, but make sure unatuma pesa Kenya,” he added.
He also recorded footage of himself in a Bus terminus. He explained that the electric buses in the UK are the same as the new ones arriving in Kenya.
The man stated the buses are never late, even by a minute. The drivers don’t pull up anywhere at the side of the road like Kenyan matatus. They have to stop at a bus stop. The buses are also not congested unlike in Kenya.
“Hizi buses zinakuwanga on time. Ikisema 8:00 am, itakuwa hapo. Ikichelewa sana labda ikuwe by one minute but ni rare sana,” he concluded.
