Jane Mureithi is a shipping trade entrepreneur, specializing in handling goods between Belgium and Kenya.

She sources her goods from Pelt City and imports them to the Kasarani area. She has an outlet store in Mwiki

Operating under the name Jamrick Global Limited, Jane Mureithi has been in business for over 10 years. In addition to the Kasarani shop, Jane has two more shipping outlets in Nyeri and Kisumu.

In a YouTube interview with Chams Media, she states that her inspiration largely stems from her experience of making goods purchases while abroad.

Most of her household appliances in Kenya would spoil quickly, hence her solution was to buy used ones in Belgium and ship them. This was how she came about developing the business model.

Having arrived in Belgium over 20 years ago, in 1999, Ms Mureithi candidly expressed that living in the diaspora has taught her that you cannot pick a job as you wish.

“Living abroad has taught me how to work in heavy jobs. There is no work discrimination for men and women alike because here we have equal gender,” she says.

“You do everything with your own hands. It’s different from home because there you have people who have surrounded you,” she added.

Before starting the shipping business, Jane had been working as a house cleaner at people’s homes. Initially, she would have to juggle between the shipping business and her day job.

“I tried it for almost 4 years. Of course, it was not possible because of my work, and travelling. So I had to stop.”

To work in any Belgian business, one must speak the language. Jane found herself compelled to learn to speak in Flemish, a local dialect of the Dutch language

In Belgium, she has set up her own yard. Here, she receives goods from donors and carefully selects those that are viable for shipping.

She finally proceeds to load the selected items into a container.

To open a business in Belgium, Jane notes that one must have a Belgium Trading and Vetting licence to engage in the trade of commodities.

“To get it as a foreigner is not easy. You also cannot have people working for you without social security and papers,” she continued.

Jane’s peak seasons in the shipping business occur during the summer season when people clear out unwanted items. Nonetheless, during other months, she ships a maximum of 2 containers per month.

With a steady shipping volume and years of experience, Jane has managed to win the hearts of many Kenyans who look to buy from her when her goods dock at the ports. She also offers door-to-door logistics.

“I do what I love most. I cannot complain. It’s not that it is an easy job, but because I do what I love, I may fall down and get up even stronger.”

She explained that a vast majority of her clients are loyal to her products. Her best-selling products are home utensils.
