The top-performing candidate in the 2023 KCPE at St. Mercy Primary School in Migori County, Jerry Orido, shocked his teachers and former students after enrolling himself for Grade 6.
Despite topping his school and locality with 374 marks, unfortunate circumstances forced him to cut short his high school dreams, unlike his peers who progressed.
Jerry Orido received a call-up to Kanga High School. Orido joined his former school which managed a mean score of 9.21, to enrol at Grade 6.
He decided to embrace his decision after learning that his parents were unable to pay his secondary school fees.

Nonetheless, this decision pained his heart. He admitted that it is saddening to see students he beat in the national examinations able to move on to high school and pursue their dreams.
He added that he couldn’t join Grade 7 or Grade 8 since those students also have to pay school fees. He hopes that a good Samaritan would come to his aid and sponsor his education.
