Journalism student murdered in fight over Ethiopian waitress girlfriend

A 26-year-old journalism student was brutally stabbed to death on Thursday 10th at Kitengela’s Norkopir Village Pub in Kitengela, Kajiado.

The student identified as Jibril Abdullahi had left his Sabaki estate along Mombasa road for Kitengela to have a drink with his friends at a bar where his ‘girlfriend’ worked as a waitress.

Shortly after, a scuffle arose between him and an unknown middle-aged assailant. They exchanged bitter words before the unknown man drew a knife and stabbed the journalism student.

All hell broke loose and he fled the scene, with an angry mob baying for his blood too, leaving Jibril a collapsed figure gasping his last breaths in a pool of his own blood.

Jibril was pronounced dead on arrival at Kitengela sub-county hospital; a few kilometers from where he had been stabbed. Revelers after his killer were unable to catch up with him.

DCI personnel in Kitengela and the OCS immediately made their way to the hospital upon receiving the sad news.

“The body of the deceased has a single stab wound on the back right-hand side,” read the police report under OB 103/09/11/2022.

Eyewitnesses at the scene say that the incident happened so fast and the assailant was armed with both a knife and a sword.

“The assailant was heard claiming the student had an affair with his girlfriend. He warned him before a confrontation ensued and he stabbed him once, inside the pub,” said one of the eyewitnesses.

Sleuths at the scene recovered a knife which is suspected to have been the murder weapon. Preliminary investigations indicate that the student was in a relationship with an Ethiopian bar attendant at the pub he breathed his last.

The motive behind the murder, according to the police, is a love triangle. The student’s phone was also recovered which shows that he was in ‘constant communication’ with his Ethiopian lover.

Kitengela police officers have now announced a crackdown to weed out criminal elements from the town. The student’s murderer is yet to be brought to justice.

  1. The junior secondary learners are too young to be together in the same environment as the senior secondary learners, or imagine an 11 years old renting a room in a town near his/her day school or the same learner in a boarding school together with a 17 or 18 years olds?
