Popular Kikuyu singer Joyce wa Mama suffered an ‘attack’ during the weekend that allegedly nearly turned her blind.
The attack took place during her birthday party that was held at Chivers Lounge along Kangundo Road.
According to a report that appeared in the Daily Nation, the singer was with dozens of her friends when, in the evening, a woman walked to her ‘enjoying a binge’ and sprinkled a substance from a bottle.
“There were claims that love beef, business emotions and jealousy might have played a role in the attack,” the report in the daily said.
The daily quoted another singer saying that “it was Wa Mama who screamed first, saying she could not see … There was apprehension in the party and three companions of the songbird also reported they could not open up their eyes.”
Joyce however refuted claims that she had gone blind. “I think we were panicky, but all is well now and my fans [have] nothing to fear… None of that, just a medical checkup and we were all ruled fit to be out of the hospital … and we can see, eyesight is intact,” she said.

The daily further quoted yet another singer saying that the incident was blown out of proportion because of intoxication. This singer claimed that what looked like an attack was in fact a champagne bottle pop up gone wrong!
