The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has issued a statement after an aircraft full of passengers veered off the taxiway at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
In a statement, KAA acting Managing Director Mohamud Gedi said the incident occurred on Monday December 29, evening.
According to the MD, the aircraft which was carrying 50 passengers had just safely landed at JKIA from Elwak airstrip in Mandera County, before it veered off the taxiway.
“Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) wishes to inform the public of an aircraft incident that occurred this afternoon at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). A domestic flight from Elwak airstrip in Mandera to JKIA Nairobi with 50 passengers on board veered off Taxiway Echo shortly after landing at JKIA,” the statement read.
All 50 passengers aboard the plane escaped unhurt, with emergency response teams deployed to contain the situation.
“All passengers and crew were safely accounted for. Airport emergency response teams have been activated in line with established procedure,” KAA added.
The authority said it is working closely with relevant aviation agencies to ensure the safe removal of the aircraft from the affected area, as investigations into the incident continue.
“Kenya Airports Authority reassures the public of its continued commitment to the safety, security, and efficiency of airport operations,” the statement reads.
