KCSE results 2021; Cabinet Secretary for Education, George Magoha confirmed that the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results will be released before the end of the month. Students, teachers, and parents can ease their anxiety after that revelation. However, a much distinct date has not yet been provided by the Ministry of Education. Magoha spoke at Kenya High School during the opening of a Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) classroom.
KCSE 2021 had 831,015 candidates sitting for the exams in 10,413 learning centers. This signified a 9.39% increase from the 2020 candidates’ cohort who were 752,981 in number. Examiners have completed marking subjects that were done in the first week of the KCSE timetable which are English, Mathematics, and Kiswahili papers. The teachers responsible for marking these papers were released by KNEC from various examination marking centers and were allowed to travel home
“We are trying to ensure that the other subjects are done before the end of this week,”
Said one of the teachers involved in the marking exercise.
Speculation arising from the anonymous teacher’s comments may mean that KCSE results could be out early next week as primary and secondary schools reopen.
University Education PS Simon Nabukwesi had previously revealed that the candidates would join various Kenyan universities in June. He said those who will be enrolled in colleges and vocational institutes will report in September. The high school graduates had until April 1st, 2022 to select their courses via the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Systems (KUCCPS) portal.
Here is what to do after examinations are released.
After the release of the examinations, results can be obtained by sending an SMS to a given number provided by KNEC in conjunction with mobile operators. The student is required to input the index number in the text and send it to the provided number. Charges are KSHs. 25 per text message and the results are sent back to the number.
There is also an online method where the learners will be required to visit the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) portal and select the online results option under the Secondary schools (KCSE) column. Thereafter, the student is required to log in with their KNEC registration username and password to view their scores.
KCSE grading is done subject-wise and thereafter an aggregate grade is taken from all the grades of different subjects. The standard grading system will be used (1 point to 12 points). 1 point is given to the lowest grade (E) and 12 points are given to the highest grade (A).
The minimum Kenyan university aggregate entry grade set is C+.
However, if this grade is not attained, prospective learners are advised to consult on tertiary education in the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). TVETs offer a wide array of programs and would be wise to consider learning more about their programs by visiting their websites before coming to a final decision. Those who agree to join the Technical Institutes and Colleges in Kenya are expected to join in September 2022.
