Kenya Power CEO Ben Chumo quits

Kenya Power chief executive officer Ben Chumo has quit his position. This comes shortly after a court suspended his renewal for a second term in office.

Mr. Chumo, who is 60, left the office and the guise of retirement. “The Chairman of the Kenya Power board of directors Kenneth Marende will announce the new acting managing director of the company this afternoon following the exit of its current CEO, Ben Chumo,” the firm said in an update.

Kenneth Tarus, the current General Manager in charge of finance, has been appointed as his successor in an acting capacity.

In November last year, Judge Nelson Abuodha issued temporary orders stopping the Energy minister and board from renewing Dr Chumo’s tenure at Kenya Power. “We have just learnt of the suit, but the board did not have any plans to extend Chumo’s term,” Marende said.
