Canada warns Kenyans after CS Mutua ‘lies’ on agreement to immigrate

Canada warns Kenyans after CS Mutua 'lies' on agreement to immigrate

Canada has dismissed a statement by Kenya’s Foreign Affairs cabinet secretary Alfred Mutua that said Kenyans can now start to immigrate to Canada for work through special programs.

Through the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), Canada said that there are no special programs for immigration that have been agreed or discussed between Canada and Kenya.

“Disinformation is circulating which suggests that special programs are welcoming Kenyan immigrants. This is false,  and the immigration programs referenced do not exist. For accurate information on how to immigrate, visit Canada.ca/immigration,” the IRCC said.

In a statement Mutua released on Tuesday May 16, the CS alleged that he had met with Sean Fraser, the Minister in charge of immigration in Canada.

“During my official visit to Canada, I have also held a discussion with the Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship of Canada and agreed on the various migration opportunity pathways for Kenyans to go and live or work in Canada,” Mutua had said in what is now claimed to have been a lie.

“I was pleased to note that there are job opportunities within various economic sectors across Canada and Kenyans can travel to Canada as students, tourists and as workers.”

Mutua had gone to claim that he and Minister Fraser had agreed that Kenyans could fill employment gaps in Canada.

“Currently, Canada has more employment opportunities than available people to work and we agreed that Kenya can help fill that gap,” said Mutua.

He the  stated that a comprehensive statement on deals agreed between Canada and Kenya would be issued in the coming days.

“We are in deep negotiations and we will be providing a comprehensive statement within the next few days with guidance and links agreed upon between the Kenyan and the Canadian Government so that Kenyans can apply for migration or job visas,” said Mutua.

However, there was no such statement from Minister Fraser. Neither were there any photos to prove that Mutua actually met Minister Fraser as he alleged.
