Kenyans can now apply for passports, Birth Certificates, and Identity cards from any part of the world after Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua launched Mobile Consular Services (MCS).

The new technology launched on Tuesday, May 16 in Canada will enable Kenyans in Diaspora to access key government services without having to travel back into the country.

Mutua explained that the technology commenced in April in the United States of America and is expected to be rolled out in other parts of the world, including the Middle East, Australia, Africa, and Europe.

Among the services provided at the MCS is the processing of E-passports, National Identity Cards, and birth certificates.

“The services provided include processing of E-Passports, National Identity Cards, Birth Certificates, counseling, and advisory services on pressing matters, among other engagements with the Diaspora,” the CS stated.

The CS, who is on an official visit to Canada, also held a meeting with the Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship of Canada, Sean Fraser, where they had a talk on job opportunities in Canada for Kenyans.

He said job opportunities in the North American country had surpassed the workforce hence the need for Kenyans to fill the gap given the unemployment rate in the country.

The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS), in its latest report, said the unemployment rate in the country closed the year 2022 at 4.9 percent.

“I was pleased to note that there are job opportunities within various economic sectors across Canada and Kenyans can travel as students, tourists and as workers,”

“We are in negotiations, and we will be providing a comprehensive statement within the next few days with guidance and links agreed upon between the Kenyan and the Canadian government so that Kenyans can apply for migration or job visas,” Mutua said.

The CS also cautioned Kenyans to be careful to avoid falling prey to unscrupulous agencies that say they are recruiting for Canadian firms.

“You, therefore, need to be careful so that you are not swindled,” he said.
