Kenya’s coronavirus local transmission: Nine more Kenyans have tested positive, bringing the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases to 225. Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said 803 samples had been tested since Tuesday, when the ministry reported a total of 216 confirmed cases since the coronavirus was first reported in Kenya.
All the new cases are Kenyans. None has a history of travel, nor were they from quarantine centres. Five are from Nairobi, four are from Mombasa. They are aged between nine and 69 years.

This implies that the latest testing saw a rise in the number of local transmission among Kenyans. According to Kagwe, the Health Ministry has monitored 2,336 people who came in contact with positive cases. 1,911 have since been discharged while it is following up on 456 cases.
There were 12 new discharges, bringing to 53, the number who have recovered. Another person died, bringing to 10 the number who have succumbed.
“We are not out of danger. To those celebrating our figures, note that our 4.6 per cent death rate is within the global range of 6.3 per cent,” CS Kagwe said.
Kenya has received two consignments of medical supplies from the Jack Ma Foundation and the World Health Organisation (WHO).“We have received a total of some 18,900 swabs and viral transportation medium and 18,912 extraction kits from the Jack Ma Foundation,” Kagwe said.
