KFCB bans betting, alcoholic, condom and semi-nude ads from airing between 5am and 10pm

Kenya Film Classification Board has banned advertisements on betting and gambling, alcoholic drinks and condoms from airing between 5am and 10pm.

In announcing the new regulations, the board ordered that all adverts start airing with a Suitable or Unsuitable tag.

“The guidelines take into account the fact that children’s ability to distinguish between fact and fantasy will vary according to their age, and that children in general tent to be imitative by nature,” says the film board CEO, Mr Ezekiel Mutua. “Advertisements will not present abstinence from sex in a negative light, or imply that it is wrong or foolish to abstain,” says Mutua.

The new rules come shortly after the board compelled Coca-Cola to edit out a kissing scene in a television advert meant for Kenyan audiences because the scene “violated family values”.

According to KFCB, the new rules are meant to safeguard Kenya’s moral fabric!
