King Charles and Queen Camilla to land in Kenya this evening

King Charles and Queen Camilla are set to land in Kenya for their first visit to a Commonwealth nation since the Charles succeeded his late mother Queen Elizabeth to the thrown.

“The King and Queen are on their way to Kenya for a four-day visit which will take in the best of the country, from its young tech entrepreneurs and creatives to its beautiful forests and coastline,” a statement by the Royal Family said.

The King’s visit will end on November 3, 2023.

“His Majesty’s first visit to a Commonwealth nation as King is therefore to the country in which Queen Elizabeth II’s reign began, having acceded to the throne in Kenya in February 1952,” a statement from the government of the United Kingdom had earlier said.

“The King and Queen will visit the counties of Nairobi City and Mombasa as well as surrounding areas. Their programme will reflect the ways in which Kenya and the UK are working together, notably to boost mutual prosperity, tackle climate change, promote youth opportunity and employment, advance sustainable development and create a more stable and secure region.”

The visit by King Charles and Queen Camilla follows an invitation by Kenya’s president William Ruto. It will come months before Kenya marks 60 years of independence.

The King and Queen will visit Nairobi City County, Mombasa County and surrounding areas. Additionally, the King and Queen will meet President Ruto and the First Lady as well as other members of the Kenyan Government, UN staff, CEOs, faith leaders, young people, future leaders and Kenyan Marines training with UK Royal Marines.
