The much-anticipated International Association of Science Parks (IASP) conference is finally approaching. After a stretch of virtual events, this biennial conference is returning to in-person meetings in 2024, with the last one taking place in 2022.
It’s shaping up to be an exciting event as IASP members previously chose Nairobi, Kenya, as the host city for their 2024 conference.
Konza Technopolis was selected as the local host to showcase the “City under the Sun’s” vibrant innovation ecosystems. A banquet of unique experiences await the delegates.
Popularly referred to as Africa’s ‘Silicon Savannah’, Konza Technopolis is one of Kenya’s Vision 2030 flagship projects. It is set to be the focal point of the 41st IASP conference.
Konza is situated in a greenfield area developed to serve as a sustainable hub for economic growth and innovation.
Konza Technopolis is designed to meet the needs of businesses, workers, and residents, offering modern urban amenities. As Kenya’s first smart city, it functions as a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) aimed at driving innovation and economic growth.
The International Association of Science Parks (IASP) is a respected global network for science parks and innovation zones seeking to enhance global teamwork, growth and members’ effectiveness.
The event has been organized by KoTDA under the Ministry of Information Communications and Digital Economy and is set for September 24th – 27th, 2024, at the Edge Convention Centre in Nairobi.
It will gather top experts from around the world to bring them up to speed on the latest trends in science parks, innovation districts, and tech incubators.
It also offers a prime opportunity for participants to network, share ideas, and explore new perspectives regarding the subject theme and science parks.
Why Konza Technopolis will become the first Smart City in Eastern Africa
It is also expected that the IASP conference will gather individuals from different fields such as academia, government and the private sector. Among them is Eng. John Tanui, PS for ICT and Digital Economy and the president of IASP’s African Chapter.
Kenya has been repeatedly flagged as one of Africa’s fastest-growing economies. It serves as the economic, commercial, financial, and logistics centre of Eastern Africa.
Nairobi is a melting pot for tech hubs, startups, and international investors who are all driven by a young population eager to embrace technological innovation.
This IASP conference provides an excellent opportunity for Kenya to showcase its growing innovation ecosystem and demonstrate the importance of projects such as Konza Technopolis in shaping the future of technology-driven economies.
Furthermore, it establishes Kenya as an important player in the global science and technology landscape.
