KUCCPS Placement Results: Thousands of students who sat for the 2020 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education and qualified to join universities did not opt to pursue university courses. This has been revealed by the results of the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service which were released by education cabinet secretary George Magoha on Tuesday. The results show that 128,073 form four leavers picked university programmes while 193,949 picked TVET courses. The total number of students who had qualified to join universities with the pass mark of C+ and above was 142,540. This meant 14,467 students who could have joined universities will not be joining. Out of this number, some 6,617 rejected degree courses in favour of diploma courses, while over 7,000 did not apply for any courses. “7850 with C+ (Plus) and above failed to apply,” CS Magoha said. “We should focus on the placement of those who apply, without assuming that every student who qualifies for university wants to join,” Magoha said.
He however raised alarm over the high number of students who did not bother to apply for any courses. “Sadly, some of our children after completing Form Four choose that to be the end of their education,” he said.

The mass failure to apply was also attributed to the failure by secondary school heads to ensure that students apply for university courses before sitting for the national exams. For instance, out of 10,437 secondary schools registered to sit KCSE exams in 2020, KUCCPS indicates that only 2,506 applied for university courses before taking the test.
