KUCCPS portal to open for 2024 KCSE students’ university admissions

2024 KCSE students who scored the minimum cut-off grade for university admission will get their chance to apply for university admissions next week. This is after the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) announced that the university admissions portal will be opened for applications next week.

How can 2024 KCSE candidates can apply for university slots?

According to KUCCPS chief executive officer Dr. Agnes Mercy Wahome, local universities have availed around 300,000 vacancies, which is more than the overall number of students who qualified for admission to universities.

In the 2024 examinations, some 246,391 candidates secured directly entry into local universities after managing to get the cut-off grade of C Plus that is required for direct entry.

Among these, 1,693 students scored a mean grade of A Plus while another 7,743 students scored a mean grade of A Minus.

What capacity have universities in Kenya declared ahead of 2025 admissions?

“We have received the approved capacities from universities. They have declared capacities of about 300,000 and so you can see that it is more than the students who qualified for admission. We will place all the students who qualified and who will apply for placement,” said Dr. Wahome.

This was echoed by Education Cabinet Secretary Julis Ogamba who told the National Assembly Committee on Education that the KUCCPS portal will be opened before the end of March.

However, according to Dr. Wahome, the portal will not display the cost of the academic programmes up for selection as has been happening over the last two years. She said that this would be done to comply with a court order.

“We cannot display the cost of the programmes. Placement and funding have been delinked,” said Dr. Wahome.

Already, the Ministry of Education has instructed KUCCPS not to place students who will be sponsored by the government in private universities. Previously, students placed in private universities would receive student loans but would not qualify for upkeep funds.
