LG's tips on how to curate an uplifting, inspiring social media feed

Every day, we deal with a rollercoaster highs, lows and occasional loops. Some events are pleasant, some are sad while others can be really stressful.

As the saying goes, we can’t always control what happens, but we can choose how to react. It’s up to us to stay positive even when things seem tough.

Social media can really shake up our mood, sometimes leaving us feeling anxious or down. That’s why LG launched the ‘Life’s Good – Optimism Your Feed’ campaign. Their aim is to fill our social feeds with more positive vibes and uplifting content.

A recent survey by LG found that social media often has a lot of negative content. About 45% of people said their feeds have as much or more negative content than positive.

Around 28% said this negative content makes them feel more anxious, and 20% said it makes them unhappy. The survey also showed that social media algorithms often push negative content.

To brighten up your feed, LG’s ‘Optimism Your Feed’ campaign offers a playlist of over 20 short, uplifting videos. These clips are designed to spread positivity and inspire. By engaging with this content, you can help turn your social media experience into a more positive space.

Professor Casey Fissler, a PhD in human-centric computing and a tech ethics expert, explains that while algorithms decide what appears on our screens, we can steer them by engaging with positive content. This helps push out the negative stuff and makes the online space more uplifting.

“The introduction of the algorithm determines what we see on social media. By predicting the type of content that we are likely to engage in. These algorithms can deliver more specific content. This can be both good and bad content. The results suggest that without supervision, Users can quickly access uncreative and harmful content,” said Professor Casey Fissler.

Victoria Brown, a global influencer and TEDx speaker backs the campaign and insists on using social media to stay connected and positively refreshed. She urged people to check out the playlist to enhance their social media experience and seek help when needed.

“In addition to the algorithms on social media having a huge impact on the online content we see, we also have a lot of work to do. Algorithms also have an impact on our mental health, and that’s why I love the ‘Optimism your feed’ campaign,” she said.

Algorithms play a big role in determining what shows up on our social media feeds. If you understand how these powerful algorithms work, you’ll see that this campaign is a refreshing change for many users.

Repetitive training will change your social media algorithm from a negativity-filled space that causes anxiety into a source of inspiration and connection.
