Linet Omusala has been working in the Middle East for over 10 years as a househelp.
She says that living and working in the middle east is an experience that’s given her life meaning, challenges notwithstanding.
With the salary she has accrued over time from her Saudi boss, Linet turned herself into a proud landlady in Kenya. She bought 2 land parcels and started building rentals on them in 2020.
“I started with six rooms, the ones painted green and orange, which I built in 2020. Then the other one I started last year in Jue and completed this year in September,” she said.
Linet has been building the rentals while in Saudi Arabia. The last time she was in the motherland was in 2017. She plans to return home soon and build an even bigger home for herself.
“I hear people say that the money from Saudi is ‘cursed’ but I really disagree with that statement. With prayers, commitment and discipline, one can achieve,” says Linet.
“Saudi has made me a proud person. It has removed me from grass to grace,” she adds.
Despite having worked in Saudi for over 10 years and also in Kenya as a househelp, Linet maintains that she would choose her Saudi boss any day, any time over a Kenyan employer.
“It is possible for a house help to achieve anything in this life. People have achieved their goals through this job,” she said.
She openly admits that the job, like any other, has its own difficulties.
“I work in a family of 10, and the challenges are too much, but I thank God because he has helped me overcome them. The house is actually big, and I clean it, cook, iron and do many other house chores. Sometimes, I am insulted but I ignore because I know I have a bigger goal,” she asserts.
