43 Nairobi Clubs have been closed as per the government’s, in conjunction with the Nairobi County Liquor Board, directives. This follows after several complaints of noise pollution filed by Nairobi residents
The Nairobi County Liquor Board said that these clubs would have their licenses suspended indefinitely after failing to comply with the guidelines that have been set.
“The Liquor Board has received complaints from various Residents Associations and the General Public on excessive noise and vibration on licensed liquor premises,” read the statement in part.
“The complaints have also been received by the County Environment Compliance and Enforcement officers despite arrests and arraignment in court, the proprietors have refused to comply and continue to contravene the stipulated licensing condition,” read part of the statement.
Over the weekend, Police arrested 26 people on Saturday, October 1, after a raid on five entertainment joints for allegedly causing noise pollution and selling banned Shisha in Nairobi’s Kilimani area.
The operation was conducted by police on Saturday, in conjunction with the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) and Nairobi. All the suspects were taken to Central Police Station and are expected to have been arraigned at Nairobi City Court today.
