The first Volkswagen car to be locally assembled has been priced at Sh. 1.65 million inclusive of value added tax (VAT).
The car has a 1.4 litre engine, five door hatchback, automatic transmission, CD player, air conditioning, raised suspension and alloy wheels.
The VW local plant—in which the Kenya government has a 35 per cent stake—targets to assemble 1,000 cars annually from January and will offer over 300 direct jobs to Kenyans.

The car comes with a warranty of three years which is equal to 120,000 kilometres. Additionally, buyers can sign up for the Sh. 99,000 three-year service plan which is equivalent to Sh. 2,750 per month.
In South Africa, though, the VW Polo Vivo goes for Sh. 1.3 million. It is the best selling car there.
