This years magharibi michezo awards 2018 went down at tourist hotel in Bungoma town yesterday night on 22 December. The event was sponsored by Tv Magharibi, in conjunction with Michezo Africa. Other team players were Bungoma County government, Maisha TV, Hon. Dan Wanyama Mp Webuye West and Hon. Catherine Wambilianga women rep. Bungoma county.

This was one of the most successful Magharibi awards to be hosted among the six previously hosted events. According to the chief organizer Dennis Machio founder of Michezo Africa at least Sh. 2million was needed to successfully host the event.

Attended by among many other leaders the Cabinet Secretary for Devolution Eugene Wamalwa, and Bungoma governor Wycliffe Wangamati pledged to support the event in its ambition to seek regional platform.a

It was moment of joy when contestants started to know their fate the first to be crowned was Basketball award women that went to Selina Okumu. Selina thanked all those who supported her. Basketball male award went to Martin Kitongo. The award was presented by Hon. Dan Wanyama

While Hockey was awarded by former rugby 7s coach Innocent Simiyu. Hockey player female category went to Cynthia walucho of Kenyatta University.
Volleyball women awards were presented by football legend of the recent times Allan Wanga. The award went to Joy Lusenaka of Kenya prisons. The male award went to Abiud Chirchir of GSU.

Male rugby player of the year  was awarded by Doreen Nabwile a former international football player, it went to George Nyambua of Kabras Sugar.

Coach of the year award went to David Lung’aho. Football sports personality of the year went to Doreen Nabwire. Female football team of the year went to vihiga Queen’s. Male football player of the year went to Faruk Shikhalo.
When stood to give his remarks Hon. Dan Wanyama cautioned sports men and women to avoid doping issues, he said doping will not only cost players their time in the field. But also health issues. He asked the county government to fully support games within the county.
Kimilili mp Didmus Barasa asked the county to start naming some of the roads in the county after the great sportsman and women from the region rather than those who do not come from within as one way of recognising and honouring regional talents.
Speaking during the event Bungoma governor said plans are underway to make Magharibi a regional event awards. He said plans are underway to develop sports within the county. Wangamati said the county government is keen to promote sports by offering scholarships to needy and sports young men and women in the county.
The cabinet secretary for devolution Eugene Wamalwa on gracing the event said he would love to see the five governors from the region being part of the Magharibi michezo awards initiative. Eugene praised the efforts by governor oparanya for the efforts made in building Bukhungu stadium. And encouraged him to be part of Magharibi awards.
It was a night that saw Wangamati CECs attend the event. Among them were Cec youth gender culture and sports, Antony walela CEC health, Mathews Wanjala CEC Agriculture. Dr Patrick Wandili Chief officer Health Bungoma county, Barasa chief officer Governor and deputy governors office. All of them pledged to support sports in the region.
