Why Mark Zuckerberg feeds his cattle beer and macadamia nuts

Early this year, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced his entry into farming as he seeks to produce the highest quality beef in the world.

Through an Instagram post, Zuckerberg revealed he had started raising wagyu and Angus cows on his ranch in Hawaii, adding that the animals would feed on beer and macadamia nuts produced on his farm.

“The cattle are wagyu and angus, and they’ll grow up eating macadamia meal and drinking beer that we grow and produce here on the ranch. We want the whole process to be local and vertically integrated. Each cow eats 5,000-10,000 pounds of food each year, so that’s a lot of acres of macadamia trees.

“My daughters help plant the mac trees and take care of our different animals. We’re still early in the journey and it’s fun improving on it every season. Of all my projects, this is the most delicious,” Zuckerberg stated.

The fourth richest person in the world according to the latest world billionaires ranking by Forbes said he wanted to feed his cows the “densest, most nutritious” food so they can both gain weight and be the most delicious cows.

“As a human, what do you think is the thing that basically you just sit and eat a lot? It’s like beer and nuts, basically. Nuts, super dense. Beer induces appetite, which I think people are familiar with.” He said.

Research shows that Wagyu beef is among the most expensive in the world, with prices ranging between KSh 31,000 and KSh 79,000 per piece.
