Best KCPE student Michael Warutere selected to join Mang’u High School

Michael Warutere Muturi, the top performer in the last edition of the KCPE exams, secured a spot at Mang’u High School. Warutere achieved an impressive score of 428 marks in the national exams.

The 13-year-old is among the 42,927 students placed in national schools nationwide. The government’s 100% transition to secondary school policy has been successful, providing all 1,406,557 candidates with an opportunity for secondary education.

Warutere aspires to become a software engineer in the future. His dreams are very much alive ever since he got the new of his performance in the national exams.

“As I go to the festive season, I am happy to have seen a star shining my way. The journey to my destination is three weeks away and I promise to exceed my expectations,” he said.

The 2023 cohort will be the last to undergo the 8-4-4 education curriculum, as the country transitions to the Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC).

Since 1985, a total of 26,067,181 candidates have gone through the KCPE exams under the 8-4-4 curriculum. According to Basic Education PS, Dr. Belio Kipsang, these figures represent 70% of the adult population in the country.

“Today’s exercise marks the end of summative learning in primary school, now replaced by the competency-based model of learning which emphasizes both formative and summative assessment focusing more on varied outcomes of a learning process including knowledge, skills and attitudes applied over a learning period.”

Other top performers who will be joining Warutere in Mang’u High School include Rotich Jeremy Kipng’eno of Moi Education Centre (MEC) who had 424, Jeremiah Maina of Bidii Primary School who had 402, Lungwanyi Wekesa Xavier, Nyongesa Wamono Ezra, and Abdi Dawood Manzur of Bungoma DEB School.
