Millicent Omanga is one of the Kenyan politicians who never shy away from flaunting her lavish lifestyle. She owns several cars and multimillion mansions, among other assets.
While many could attribute her source of wealth to her political career, Omanga revealed she made her first million at the age of 19 as a student at the University of Nairobi.
While at the University, the self-proclaimed Mama Miradi started selling bedsheets, a journey that made her the then-biggest bedsheet supplier in the region.
Within one year, she had made her first million. She said her first million came from supplying bedsheets to one of the hotels in Eldoret, a move that inspired her to order more from abroad.

“By 20, I bought a new car and was still in the university. I would use a portion of my school fees to buy a few things in Eastleigh that I would later sell at a profit. By exam time, I had made profits, and I would use that to clear my fees,” she said, as quoted by a local daily.
Two years later, during an end-of-year-party for Pitchface, a marketing company owned by South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro, Omanga revealed she quit the bedsheet business following her appointment as the director at the Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen).
Omanga said her appointment to the power-producing company was organized by President William Ruto. Expressing her gratitude, she named Ruto “a man who believes in the leadership of the youth.”
“When CS Chirchir (Energy CS) called and asked if I was in Nairobi before directing me to rush to his office, I wondered what I had done,’’
‘’I got to his office, and he informed me that the following day, KenGen would be holding its annual general meeting and that I had been nominated as one of the directors. I could not believe it,” she said then.

The lucky hour found Omanga in the streets in her normal trade, and she had to bid goodbye to her blue-collar job and usher in a white-collar job.
“I was bargaining with the Asian shopkeeper for a good price that could ensure I got a profit when I resold the sheets later when the call summoning me to Chirchir’s office came,” she added.
Omanga served at KenGen from 2013 to 2017. She is the current Interior Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) following her appointment by President William Ruto on March 2023.
She is also a businesswoman with multiple investments in the lucrative real estate sector. She owns Milways Enterprises, a company that deals in construction, interior décor, and imported furniture, among other investments.
