In April 2021, Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya’s Ministry of Agriculture made a major a goof after controversial tweets criticizing President Uhuru Kenyatta were sent from its handles. The Ministry had tweeted that President Uhuru Kenyatta is currently the most hated Kenyan.
The tweet came in the form of a retweet that was done using the official handle of the Ministry of Agriculture.
In the first of three controversial tweets first said, “Birds of the same feather walk together. Shame on the biggest clowns that this country has… Uncultured fools” in reference to President Uhuru and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
The second retweet was on a post that said president Uhuru is the least desired Kenyan. “Jayden may be the most hated Kenyan in 2020-2021”.
Yet another tweet from the ministry said, “…Hope Kenyans have learned something!”
The ministry claimed the account had been temporarily hijacked. “The Ministry apologizes for controversial tweets sent out from this account twenty minutes ago, which was temporarily hijacked,” reads part of the apology tweet. It added that necessary security measures have been put in place to safeguard the account.
The claim that the account was hacked has been rubbished by many. Netizens have said that the probable cause may have been an admin who forgot to log out from the Ministry’s handle before sharing the controversial views regarding President Kenyatta on their own handle.
