Ministry of Education announces 2023 KCPE results date

The 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) candidates will get their results before Christmas, Basic Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang has said.

In a statement, Kipsang added that the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) results will also be released before Christmas, but KCPE would be prioritized.

“Because of the work that is pending, our children have to report to school in January, we will have to prioritize KCPE,” Kipsang said.

The PS further revealed that all parents will also be appraised on the schools their children will be admitted to before Christmas festivities, with the Ministry expecting a 100 percent transition to secondary schools.

KNEC accused of repeating 60 percent of questions from past KCPE, KCSE exams

The KCPE and KPSEA exams began on October 30, 2023, and were completed on November 1, 2023. In 2023, at least 1,415,315 candidates sat for the KCPE exams, while a total of 1,282,574 candidates sat for their KPSEA assessments.

KPSEA is the new primary exit examination under the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) and is administered in Grade 6. It will be done to monitor learner achievement and not the placement of candidates.

Unlike in KCPE exams, where candidates are rated out of 100 percent, KPSEA only accounts for 40 percent of the final score. The other 60 percent comes from classroom-based continuous assessment tests conducted in Grades 4, 5, and 6.

This was the last KCPE exam to be done in the country after 38 years of its implementation as the Education Ministry moves to replace the 8-4-4 curriculum with the Competency-Based Curriculum, which is a 2-6-6-3 system.
