Fine in millions Embassava driver will pay for Mlolongo expressway accident

Last night, another Mlolongo expressway accident occurred at the Mlolongo exit toll involving an Embassava sacco matatu and a private vehicle. The Matatu was speeding to line up and pay the exit money at the Mlolngo toll heading towards Kitengela after plying the Nairobi Expressway route from Nairobi..

In the midst of all that, the driver happened to ram a costly Prado and crashed the bus into a toll station. The bus rolled with people inside leaving nearly 20 people injured. It is extremely fortunate that there were zero casualties reported from the accident.

Kenyans at the scene rushed to help the injured passengers as some tried to switch off the vehicles engine, which was still emanating lots of smoke fumes. The Prado occupants and Embassava passengers were immediately rushed to the hospital.

This comes barely two weeks after another driver crashed his vehicle on the station at night leading to his death.

“The motorist crashed into the Toll Plaza and ran over other vehicles that were being cleared to exit. Consequently, the vehicle knocked one toll booth and injured one toll attendant besides the other motorists.” KenHa wrote in their social media statement.

Motorists have been cautioned against speeding on the expressway. Following last night’s wreckage, the Embassava driver responsible for the accident is facing heavy fines for recklessness.

The Embassava driver destroyed a toll booth and the fine lies between Kshs. 1.32 Million and Kshs. 1.8 Million. He also destroyed the ticket issuing machine valued at Kshs. 1.9 Million. There was damage to the vehicle type scanner which costs Kshs. 2.4 Million. Another fine imposed will be damage to the camera in the toll collection plaza at Kshs. 600,000. This brings the total cost to nearly 7 Million.

As of now, Kenyans have been treated to a real show of efficiency by the Moja Expressway company after the company had repaired the toll a few hours later after the accident had occurred. By today morning, the toll booth had been fixed as well as all the damages that were involved.
