Ministry announces countrywide recruitment of drivers: Salary, how to apply

The Ministry of Public Service and Human Capital Development has announced a nationwide recruitment of 200 drivers.

In an advert, the ministry said the appointed individuals will be deployed to support the transportation and mobility needs of government operations within the Ministry of Education.

“The Ministry of Public Service and Human Capital Development invites applications from qualified persons for the position of Driver II, CSG 15 at the Ministry of Education,” read the advert in part.

The responsibilities of the drivers include driving government vehicles for official duties as assigned by authorized personnel and conducting routine vehicle inspections to ensure roadworthiness.

The drivers will also be required to maintain vehicle documentation and update work tickets for each trip, indicating mileage, fuel consumption, and service records, as well as maintaining a vigilant approach to security both on and off the road.

Other responsibilities are keeping the vehicle clean and presentable at all times, coordinating with the relevant departments for scheduled servicing, and responding to emergency situations and supporting the safety of passengers using acquired first-aid knowledge.

Qualifications and Requirements

To qualify for the jobs, applicants are required to have a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade of D plain or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution, a valid driving License, and a police clearance certificate

Additionally, interested applicants must have attended a First-Aid Certificate Course lasting not less than one week at St. John Ambulance or Kenya Institute of Highway and Building Technology (KIHBT) or any other recognized institution, passed the suitability test for Grades III, v, and vi, and have at least two years of driving experience.

How to apply

Applicants who meet the above requirements should submit their application by filling Application for Employment Form PSC 2 (Revised 2016) available on the Public Service Commission of Kenya website (www.publicservice.go.ke) and attach copies of the certificate as required in the advert.

The applications should be hand-delivered at the Ministry’s office at Uchumi House 12th Floor, Room 1201 between 8.00 AM and 5.00 PM or emailed to [email protected] on or before 2nd May 2025, 5.00 p.m.

Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted for interviews. Successful applicants are entitled to a monthly salary of between Sh19,340 and Sh24,470.

They will also receive a house allowance depending on the region they have been deployed, a commuter allowance of Sh3,000 per month, and a leave allowance of Sh4,000 per year.
