Moi grandson to pay ex-wife Sh. 125,000 in child support every month

Late president Daniel Arap Moi’s grandson Collins Moi has been ordered to pay his former wife Sh. 1.5 million annually in child support. This will be equivalent to monthly payments of Sh. 125,000.

The order against the Moi grandson was made by Nakuru Principal Magistrate Benjamin Limo. The court ruled that Gladys Jeruto Tagi had proven beyond doubt that Collins was the father of her two children. The children are aged 11 and 9 years.

“The defendant shall pay school fees and also take care of the medical needs (via medical cover). the parties shall share in the provision of entertainment needs of the minors,” the court ruled.

Collins and Gladys will however share the entertainment costs. In the  suit, Gladys wanted Collins to pay Sh. 200,000 per term for the children’s education, Sh. 200,000 for their annual medical cover and Sh. 100,000 monthly entertainment costs.

She also wanted him to pay Sh. 100,000 for food, Sh. 150,000 for upkeep, Sh. 100,000 for clothing, Sh. 100,000 for rent and Sh. 50,000 for house help. This would have amounted to Sh. 1 million in child support alone.

Collins had attempted to cast himself as unable to pay the maintenance by claiming that he was jobless and homeless. Collins had told the court that he would only be able to pay Gladys Sh. 500 per month in child support.
