Form one placement: Top ten most selected schools by 2023 KCPE candidates

The Ministry of Education has released a list of secondary schools that received an overwhelming number of applications compared to their capacity.

According to Education CS Ezekiel Machogu, who released the Form One selection report in Nairobi on Monday, December 18, Kabianga High School and Pangani Girls topped the list of the most sought-after secondary schools, with 186,357 and 144,542 respectively, seeking places in the giant national schools.

The two schools, however, offered only 672 and 384 places, respectively. Other schools that are among the top 10 most preferred by the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) candidates are:

While presiding over the 2024 Form One placement at Lenana School on Monday, Machogu said the placements were done based on candidate choices and other criteria.

The CS added that all 1.4 million candidates who sat the 2023 KCPE were placed in befitting secondary schools.

“Some students were placed in schools of equivalent standing outside their counties. This includes those from counties with inadequate capacity,” Machogu stated.

Some 1,400,329 students out of the 1,406 557 who took the KCPE examination have managed to secure placements in various high schools. According to the CS, 717,358 of the selected students are boys, and 682,971 are girls.

Machogu noted that 42,927 have been placed in national schools with 22,051 being boys and 20,876 girls. Those placed in Extra-County schools are 276,746, with 141,590 being boys and 133,156 girls.

Sub-county schools, on the other hand, recorded 792,230 students, with 423,171 boys and 369,059 girls. Machogu noted that the official joining date for Form One will be on January 15, 2024.
